Excerpt: The log cabin was built in the 1830s by Jacob Funkhouser on land in Laughery Township acquired in a Govt. land grant.(Submitted on March 7, 2024.)
In later years it became known as the Smith-Engel Cabin, named after other families who lived there. The WEHR family purchased the land and gave the cabin to the Ripley County Historical Society. In 1979, the cabin was dismantled and reconstructed at it's present site by the Society to preserve a historical home of the pioneers.
