Inscription.
Erected about 1873 by Conrad H. Flick of Bethalto, and enlarged in 1885.

Long the center of government and community activity, it has housed the police, fire and water departments, and today contains the public library. Lodge No. 406 A.F. & A.M. met here 1874-1953.

Commemorated on October 18, 1959, by Madison County Historical Society at Zion Lutheran Church.

This historical marker presented to the community by the Zion Lutheran Church on its 100th birthday.
