A World Turned Upside Down
The Korean War ravaged up and down the peninsula.
Family members and relatives, separated only by geography, fund themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. For them, the Korean War became brother versus brother, father versus son, cousin versus cousin.
With the destruction of villages and towns, many Koreans became destitute. Wandering homeless with starvation, disease, bitter cold, and death their constant companions, the spirit of the Korean people remained unbroken and resolute.
A trouble society awaits you.
Destroyed cities and ruined villages.
Stand on denuded hills and valleys gone dry.
Even if the whole world laughs at you,
You still have your Iron will in your heart.
Do not grieve over your maimed body and ruined home.
Grieve only if your have lost the will to rebuild your life and home.
May you plant flowers in your garden of tomorrow
And reap bouquets of joy in time!
