1. Visiting Nuttallburg Marker

Inscription. This trail, the former Keeney Creek Branch Railroad, leads to the site of Nuttallburg, a coal mining town that existed from 1870 until 1958. Today you can visit the site and learn about life in a New River Gorge mining town. Several structures and many building foundations remain. Exhibits throughout the town explain Nuttallburg's history.

Nuttallburg is an example of America's coal mining heritage and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site illustrates the evolution of coal mining technology and the social conditions that accompanied the coal industry for nearly a century.
