Inscription. This 1955 24 ton double bay window Nickel Plate Railroad caboose was saved from extinction in 1990 by many generous local citizens, railroad enthusiasts, organizations and businesses.

The caboose was built in the NKP's Ironville (east Toledo) shop and remained in service through mid-1978. Restoration and relocation efforts included transporting the caboose to the Payne Community Park, where an actual railroad was built for the caboose to sit on in front of the Depot, as well as maintenance painting throughout the years.

Erected by Village of Payne, Payne Chamber of Commerce.
