of four constructed in the state under the Public Buildings Act of 1926. It was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect and built by Algernon Blair of Montgomery, Alabama. The Post Office was a part of a stepped up public works program designed by President Herbert Hoover to relieve unemployment during the early stages of the Great Depression.
