Inscription. A state of the art facility when it was built in 1926, this filling station was part of the 1920's automobile boom that opened the area to its first real influx of new residents and tourists. With masonry vernacular construction, it is an excellent example of Florida's early architecture influenced by the Spanish.

Brothers Al and Ben Key purchased the Standard Oil station in 1967, and for decades it served as a gathering place for Kissimmee's men - a place for Monday morning quarterbacking, heated political debates, and friendly ribbing between college rivals.

In 1998, the city purchased the station with plans for demolition to make way for a wider road. As the project moved forward the demolition was not necessary.

Thanks to efforts by the Community Redevelopment Agency, a Kissimmee landmark and long time gathering place has been beautifully restored and now serves the community as The Key's Welcome Station.

Erected by Kissimmee Main Street.
