1. San Martin House Marker
Inscription. Don Jose de San Martin was born at Yapeyu, on the river Uruaguay Febuary 25, 1778; he died in his seventy-seventh year at Boulogne, France August 7, 1850. A vigorous, able clear sighted soldier and statesman San Martin did more than any other man for the cause of independence in the Argentine, Chile and Peru. This house is named in his honor as a gesture of peace and friendship toward the Spanish speaking people of South America.

José Francisco de San Martín y Matorras (25 February 1778 – 17 August 1850), nicknamed "the Liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru", was an Argentine general and the primary leader of the southern and central parts of South America's successful struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire who served as the Protector of Peru. Born in Yapeyú, Corrientes, in modern-day Argentina, he left the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata at the early age of seven to study in Málaga, Spain.
