Excerpt (in translation): The Faith and Freedom memorial, which hung on the facade of 1e Pijnackerstraat 104 in Rotterdam, has been removed from the wall by unknown persons and stolen. The monument hung on the building in memory of three Rotterdam resistance members who died during a raid in 1942.(Submitted on March 22, 2024.)
It is unclear why the monument, which was mounted on wood, wastaken. "We do have a suspicion," says CBK director Ove Lucas. "We have already had reports twice before from metal buyers where something of a work of art had ended up. We now fear that too. But it is not worth much. It is an alloy."
The theft has now been reported to the police, which was discovered last weekend by an alert neighborhood caretaker. The heirs of artist Loeki Metz (who died in 2004) have also been informed. They call the theft 'painful'. The Center for Visual Arts Rotterdam (CBK) is very upset.
