1. First Around the World Globe Marker

Inscription. The "First Around The World" globe reflects the Douglas Aircraft motto established after the historic around the world flight of 1924. The globe is a bronze recreation of the original that was installed at the entrance to the Douglas Aircraft Plant (opened in 1941) on Lakewood Boulevard. The Globe is eight feet in diameter and weighs 6,045 pounds. The Douglas Park signage, hardscape materials and colors recall the globe's original installation. The dates on each side of the pedestal represent the Douglas Aircraft Plant historical milestones.

Erected 2007 by City of Long Beach and the Boeing Company.
