Inscription. You are standing on 134 acres of land created in 1910 to house Flagler's train terminal. The two Coast Guard piers nearest you date back to 1912. They were built as an integral part of Henry Flagler's plan to use his railroad to connect the United States mainland to Cuba. The trip is 90 miles long and traverses the strong currents of the Gulf Stream. Train cars from the mainland were loaded from these piers onto ships and transported to Havana to join the Cuban railway.
