Inscription. The Rev. Isaac Kauffman, a Mennonite minister, and Esther Kauffman came to Greenbrier County in 1788. The Coffman Cemetery, established in 1805 upon Esther's death, is near Isaac and Esther's home place at the end of Coffman Cemetery Road. At the site of this marker, the homestead of Harvey Lewis Coffman (Isaac's grandson) and Nancy Elizabeth Knapp Coffman served as a U.S. Post Office (Coffman, WV) from Dec. 18, 1891 to June 6, 1915. During that time six children were born here: Polly Lewis Coffman Crosby (1894-1971), Viva Madge Coffman Whanger (1898-1995), Helen Wheat Coffman Nesbit (1902-1992), Paul Kruger Coffman (1905-2000), Daniel Roy Coffman (1907-2006), and Dora Catherine Coffman Davis (1910-1972). The original post office boxes are now at North House Museum in Lewisburg, along with the family's Conestoga wagon used in 1788.
