Also see . . . About Us, Randall Memorial United Methodist Church. This page features a short essay on the history of the congregation. This section shares about the founding of the congregation:
In June 1910 the Rev. Armstead Randall and his wife Rebecca, along with John H. Snowden, John and Cynthia Smith, Georgia Gross, and Eugene and Fannie Sparrow discussed the need for a Methodist Episcopal Church in their Deanwood community in Northeast Washington, DC. They decided to take action.(Submitted on March 30, 2024, by Devry Becker Jones of Washington, District of Columbia.)
These concerned, visionary Methodists organized the Deanwood Methodist Episcopal Church with the help of more than a dozen other founding members. They raised enough funds to rent Moses Hall on Lane Place, N.E., and start a mission there. Their first worship service was held on July 2, 1911. After almost a year of preparation and sacrifice, these courageous ancestors erected their first church building on Browning Place, N.E., now 46th Street, N.E. They laid the cornerstone there in June 1912.
