Excerpt (in translation): The 4th Parisian Security Company participated in the surrender of the Majestic Hotel. Around 1:45 p.m., the first tanks of Leclerc moved from the Arc de Triomphe towards Place de la Concorde. Around 2 p.m., when the tanks of the 2nd DB arrived, near the Majestic hotel, the armed firefighters received the order to join them as riflemen. As Corporal Birlinger was crossing the Champs-Élysées with ten men to join Leclerc's division, it was at that moment that a shell was fired from a German tank positioned at Place de la Concorde, which fortunately did not explode, but instead clipped the leg of the corporal, who died before arriving at the Val de Grace hospital.(Submitted on March 31, 2024.)
