constructed in Vicksburg, Mississippi before the Civil War. It is particularly significant because it retains its rear dependencies with undercut galleries. …

This house was the home of Benjamin Guider who founded in 1866 what became "one of Vicksburg's leading jewelry establishments." Guider was a manufacturing jeweler "whose reputation has spread over the entire south" and he was "recognized as one of the most proficient men in this line of business endeavor in the country." The business carried on by his two sons after Guider's death just before World War I was still being conducted in 1934 at which time it was considered to be the oldest jewelry business in the state. Another prominent Vicksburg man, was Ben Guider's grandson. Named for his grandfather Benjamin Guider, attorney and judge, was born in the house.
