Chinatown in Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands — Northwestern Europe
Batavierenstraat
The Batavierenstraat is named after the fact that in the last century many goods were transported by drayage, this was done on sleds or with long wagons with horses in front. Around 1860 an association of draymen called themselves 'the Batavians on horseback'. The association was often involved in the many parades held on the occasion of local and national festivals and events. The Batavians on horseback enjoyed great popularity. So big in fact that this street was named after them in 1865.
Erected by the 32N.
