Inscription. The first brick building in Panama City was completed in 1911 and housed Panama City's first bank. The bank closed in 1915 and was occupied by various businesses over the years. In 1941 Leslie Miller Gilbert opened Less Gilbert's Bay Shore Bar and Cafι at 100 Harrison Avenue. In 1947 Mr. Gilbert purchased the building and it became known as the Gilbert Building. Mr. Gilbert died in 1970 and his son Leslie "Bubba" Gilbert continued the business. In 1987 the building burned and in 1988 the first floor of the two story building was rebuilt with the original brick, cleaned and salvaged by Leslie Miller "Bubba" Gilbert, Jr. In 2015 the building is occupied by the La Royale Lounge and Package.
