Inscription. This is the oldest known existing residence in the Cove. It was built about 1867 by Wiliam & Martha Farley who brought their family to the bay from Jackson County shortly after the close of the Civil War. Farley also planted a large grove of orange trees that were a landmark along the bay for many years. He and two other men were “lost at sea” on April 16, 1870 as he attempted to bring in his ship “The Mental” back through the “Old Pass” during a violent storm. Mrs. Farley sold the property in late 1875 and it was owned by the Davis Harmon family for the next 35 years. In 1909 Nancy Davis Harmon and husband Turner H. Harmon platted out a portion of that land to become "Harmon's Addition" to the new Panama City. After more than 140+ years, this house still retains it's position as unofficial "Gatekeeper to the Cove" and to the unique history of St. Andrews Bay.
