1. Scott/Yerby House Marker
Inscription. Mark S. Scott & his wife, Isabelle Balkom Scott, came to Millville in late 1907 from Holmes County and built this home for their young family in 1908. Scott was the brother of Mrs. Eunice Scott Cotton and Mrs. Mary L. Forrester who also moved to early Millville. Scott was elected to the East Millville Town council, sang at the Millville Baptist Church, was a member of the Woodmen of the World fraternal society and played baseball for the Millville "Fats & Leans" baseball club. He was a mechanic for the German American Lumber Co. until 1920. He and his family moved to Taylor Co., Florida and sold their Millville home in 1925. It later became home to the J. Sherman Yerby family for almost 70 years. The contributions of all those who lived and worked in the early years of the Millville community are recognized with gratitude and pride.
