Inscription.
Built as the headquarters of the Irving Trust Company Bank in 1929-31, One Wall Street is one of New York City’s finest Art Deco skyscrapers. The 654-foot limestone-clad tower, suggestive of a fluted column or draped cloth, is enlivened by subtle setbacks, chamfered corners, concave windows, and a crystalline crown that originally contained an executive lounge. It is among the most significant works of Ralph Walker, of Voorhees, Gmelin & Walker, whom the American Institute of Architects honored as “The Architect of the Century” in 1957. One Wall Street was designated as an individual landmark in 2001 and sensitively converted to residential and retail use in 2022 by Macklowe properties.
