Jan Goldschmeding
Amsterdam, 23 februari 1921 - Wormerveer, 11 oktober 1944

(English translation:)
Together with Cornelis Dijksterhuis and three others, Jan Goldschmeding was executed by the German occupiers on October 11, 1944. Their execution was in retaliation for the shooting death of police officer Jan Willem Bouwens by the resistance. Goldschmeding was a theology student at the Vrije Universiteit. "The mood in our country is extremely good," he wrote in his diary. Soon after that the mood changed. Goldschmeding became involved in the Christian resistance around the newspaper Trouw. His name is on a monument in Wormerveer and on a plaque in the Pauluskerk in Amstelveen. There is also a public garden named after him in that town, where a large portrait of him also has been painted.
