Local secondary school students aged thirteen visited Pugin's house and church in Ramsgate to study his designs. Inspired by his work, they created these contemporary tile designs to decorate Kent Steps. The tiles were installed in 2020 and are now part of the Pugin Trail. The project was kindly funded by the Historic England Heritage Schools Programme as part of the Ramsgate Heritage Action Zone.

A.W.N. Pugin, one of Ramsgate's most famous residents, was born on March 1st 1812 and was only forty years old when he died, but he left an artistic legacy that is still relevant in the 21st Century. In his short life, Pugin designed the interiors of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and many churches and cathedrals, as well as tiles, textiles and furniture. Many fine examples of Pugin's work can be found in and around Ramsgate. His impact on architecture and design continues to this day, and this tile installation is an example of his continuing influence in Ramsgate and beyond.
