Burlington in Chittenden County, Vermont — The American Northeast (New England)
171 Saint Paul Street
c. 1820s, remodeled c. 1925
This distinctive building is probably a c.1925 remodeling of an early 19th-century, Federal Style building. Throughout the 19th century, the building was a private residence, and by the turn of the century, it was run as a boarding house. In c.1925, when the building was sold to an automobile dealer, it was remodeled into a commercial building by squaring off the gabled roof and adding larger windows at street level. Much of the early 19th-century fabric remains intact, including the small, one-story addition to the rear.
