Rudi Bloemgarten studeerde medicijnen aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Hij was lid van verzetsgroep 2000, die door Jacoba van Tongeren werd geleid. Bloemgarten maakte en verspreidde het illegale blad Rattenkruid, verzorgde bonkaarten, vervalste persoonsbewijzen en maakte springstoffen, munitie en wapens. Hij was onder andere betrokken bij de aanslag op de belangrijke NSB'er Jan Durks Feitsma en de bomaanslag op de spoorbaan bij Sloterdijk. De aanslag op 27 maart 1943 op het Amsterdamse Bevolkingsregister werd hem fataal. Ruim twee weken hierna werd hij opgepakt en ter dood veroordeeld. Zijn naam staat op een herdenkingsplaquette aan de gevel van het voormalige bevolkingsregister aan de Plantage Kerklaan. Postuum ontving Bloemgarten het Verzetsherdenkingskruis.

(English translation:)
Rudi Bloemgarten studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam. He was a member of the resistance group 2000, which was led by Jacoba van Tongeren. Bloemgarten produced and distributed the illegal magazine Rattenkruid provided ration coupons, forged identity cards and made explosives, ammunition and weapons. He was involved, among other things, in the attack on the important NSB member Jan Durks Feitsma and the bomb attack on the railway near Sloterdijk. The attack on the Amsterdam Population Register on March 27, 1943 proved fatal to him. More than two weeks later he was arrested and sentenced to death. His name is on a commemorative plaque on the facade of the former population register uilding on Plantage Kerklaan. Posthumously, Bloemgarten received the Verzetsherdenkingskruis (“Resistance Memorial Cross”).

Attack on the population register (in translation): He was one of the participants in the attack on the Amsterdam Population Register (1943) at the Plantage Middenlaan in Amsterdam. Under the leadership of Gerrit Jan van der Veen and together with Willem Arondeus, Johan Brouwer, Sam van Musschenbroek, Coos Hartogh, Henri Halberstadt, Karl Grφger, Guus Reitsma, Koen Limperg, Sjoerd Bakker, Cornelis Barentsen and Cornelis Roos, he imposed himself disguised as a police officer, entered the building on March 27, 1943 and blew up the building with explosives. Due to betrayal, the Security Service arrested most of the perpetrators and helpers within two weeks.

him and then ran off. Due to betrayal, he was arrested shortly afterwards in The Hague. Twelve of the attackers were executed on July 1, including painter and writer Willem Arondeus, writer Johan Brouwer, architect Koen Limperg and Bloemgarten.
