Nitrate Film Vaults
1939-2014
This site once housed The Walt Disney Studios' original film vaults, which were built in 1939. These three original vaults were used as storage for the daily activities in the adjacent Cutting Building, playing an important role supporting the editorial needs of the production process.
At the time of their construction, the nitrate vaults were considered state of the art, boasting features to minimize damage should the highly flammable nitrate film stored inside catch fire.
Over time, the Company's success and increased film production necessitated the construction of additional storage space. Subsequently, new vaults were added in 1944, 1946, 1953, 1973, 1974, and 1983.
Erected 2015 by The Walt Disney Studios.
