Inscription. North Central's award-winning radio station was launched in 1946 by World War II student veterans, many of whom had served as service radio technicians. Granted a license in 1968 to operate as WONC-FM 89.1 the station and its student broadcasters regularly win national honors in commercial and collegiate contests. The student-run station was named the nation's Best Overall Radio Station by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in 2015.
