Excerpt (in translation): On August 24 at 4:55 p.m., emergency services from the center of Saint-Denis were called to a fire at 69 Rue de Strasbourg. The Germans fired automatic weapons right away. The firefighters were putting out the fire when two trucks loaded with Germans opened fire there on the Rue de Strasbourg. Corporal Leick was hit by a heavy machine gun bullet and tried to get up when he then was shot down by a burst of machine gun fire. He died the same day at 10:30 p.m.(Submitted on May 11, 2024.)
Corporal Leick was posthumously decorated on January 15, 1945 with the Croix de Guerre with palm.
