1. Stages Four and Five Marker
Completed in 1958, Stage 4 was first used in the filming of "Darby O'Gill and the Little People." Designed for special effects productions, the stage is equipped with special roof vents needed to compensate for extremely high lighting temperatures generated by the process. Productions in the stage have generated temperatures as high as 136 degrees. During the shooting of "Darby O'Gill" the excessive power usage for special effects lighting even caused a brief power outage that blacked-out the city of Burbank. More recently, portions of "Tron" were filmed on the stage and the elaborate interiors of the entire Whiteman Mansion, from the film "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" were constructed on the stage.
The stage originally measured 133" x 243", the same size as Stage 2, but in 1988 it was divided to become stages four and five, both configured for live audience television production.
