Clinton
Founded in 1816, the Village of Clinton flourished after the Ohio & Erie Canal opened here in 1828.
Clinton became a major distribution center for coal, grain and produce. Supporting businesses increased including blacksmiths, grocery and provision stores, saloons, hotels, warehouses, and the Clinton Milling Company.
The railroad arrived in 1852. Clinton continued to thrive on both transportation systems until the devastating Flood of 1913.
