Guard Lock
Just north of where you stand, the Ohio & Erie Canal crossed the Tuscarawas River. A dam built on the river created still water which canal boats could safely cross.
Located on the canal just south of the river crossing was the rare type of lock in front of you. This guard lock had gates that could be opened or closed to control the amount of river water entering the canal, guarding the canal and Clinton from floodwaters.
