Our Mission
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

Our Post
Chartered March 30, 1946 as the Stephen C. Ludlam Post 331
Post 331 was named in honor of Private First Class (PFC) Stephen C. Laim of Stone Harbor PFC Ludlam was killed in action at the age of 19 near Ostheim, France on January 19.1945. For his heroic action on that date, he was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, an award second only to the Medal of Honor. Today, Post 331 has over 200 members. Membership is open to all honorably discharged military veterans. On November 8, 2013, Post 331 established the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 331.

Service is our mission. Post 331 and its Squadron use donations and fundraising activities to provide support

for Cape May County veterans and various Avalon and Stone Harbor community programs. Specifically, Post 331 provides support for homeless veterans, other veterans in need and active military personnel. During the summer months, our members provide free guided tours of our historic building and its museums. We promote patriotism through our Memorial, Flag and Veterans Day ceremonies, which include an open house for our communities. Additionally, we provide honor guards for various functions, internment services and support Americanism projects in our local schools.
