Regarding Gen Burgoyne. British General Burgoyne would begin his 1777 campaign here on Northern Lake Champlain. Going south, he would eventually lead the British army during the fateful Battles of Bennington and Saratoga which would end in a major American victory turning the tide of the American Revolutionary War.
