Jordaan in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands — Northwestern Europe
Johnny Meijer

Jan Cornelis (Johnny) Meijer (1912-1992) was a versatile virtuoso Amsterdam accordionist. He became famous in the years 1920-1950, during which time - cigar in the corner of his mouth - he frequently played and performed with music groups of various music genres. From Romanian music to jazz with Dixieland, Johnny had it covered. That earned him the title King of the Accordion.
In 1974 he recorded the LP Johnny goes Dixie with the Dutch Swing Collegeband. He achieved a lot of success, recognition and invitations to play abroad. Yet he often declined these invitations because he could not afford to miss his beloved Jordaan.
