Tribute to Freedom. . , On September 11, 2001 a surprise terrorist attack originating from across these waters struck America, taking the lives of nearly 3,000 people at the New York Twin Towers, the Pentagon in Washington, DC and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania thereby posing an immediate challenge to our freedom and very way of life., On that day, and for nearly twenty years thereafter, many Americans, including first responders, government officials, members of the military and ordinary citizens have come together, risking, and too often sacrificing, their health and lives by responding immediately to the attacks. They then took what became a global war on terror back to the perpetrators, with the objective that this great country does not, ever again, suffer such a terrible attack., This monument to freedom has been located here in a setting of peacefulness and quiet reflection to best honor and thank those men and women who sacrificed so much to help preserve our American freedom in a time of crisis. , , ( inscription on the base ) , Presented to the citizens of Guilford, CT. by , Darrow-Rebuzzini American Legion Post 48 , February 2023
