Fort Campbell in Montgomery County, Tennessee — The American South (East South Central)
Hunter Killer Team
Introduced in 1973, toward the end of the Vietnam war, the AH-1F was an upgrade of the AH-1G. After Vietnam, it was adapted for anti-armor operations against Soviet-style enemies, gradually being replaced by the Boeing AH-64 Apache beginning in 1988, though the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) used Cobras during Operation Desert Storm.
Coming into service in 1969, the OH-58 was originally unarmed and designed for observation, utility transport, and direct fire support. This OH-58C is very similar externally to the OH-58As from Vietnam. The C model had a more powerful engine and a host of electronic navigation and targeting capabilities and last saw combat during Operation Desert Storm.
