Inscription.
Johnny Oates became only the third man to post a winning record while managing the Orioles for at least three full seasons. Had a 291-270 record in 3 ½ seasons as Orioles manager, 1991-94. Guided O's to 89-73 record in his first full season and then to an 85-77 mark in 1993, earning Manager of the Year honors from The Sporting News and serving as a coach for the American League All-Star team. Went on to manage Texas for six-plus seasons including the Rangers' first three post-season trips. Began an 11-year playing career with the Orioles in 1970, later playing for four other big league clubs. Became Orioles first base coach in 1988 until being named manager during the 1991 season.
