The "Babe Ruth of Amateur Baseball," Walter Youse left his as a scout as well as a coach of many of the best amateur teams in the Baltimore area and is the first scout honored with the Herb Armstrong Award. Spent 46 years as a scout including 19 with the Orioles. Signed numerous future big leaguers, including Orioles Hall of Famers Johnny Oates and B.J. Surhoff. His first signee was Cal Ripken Sr. His amateur teams won 46 consecutive Baltimore City championships and a record 20 AAABA titles and spent more than 45 players to the majors. The team continues under his protιgιs, who renamed it Youse's Maryland Orioles following his death in 2002.
