At the time of his selection as 2013 Herb Armstrong Award winner, Donald Pries was in his 68th year in professional baseball. Spent seven years with the Orioles as a scout, Director of Player Development and Assistant to the General Manager, 1968-74, during which the Orioles reached post-season play five times. Joined the new MLB Scouting Bureau in 1974 and co-designed the first computerized scouting system for all clubs. Served as director of the Bureau for 11 years beginning in 1989 at which time he created the Scout Development Program, which has trained more than 1,000 individuals since its inception. Continues to consult for the Bureau. Received the Lifetime Achievement Award from MLB in 2012.
