A utility player for nine seasons before joining the Orioles, John Lowenstein became the left-handed half of a vaunted left-field platoon along with Gary Roenicke helping the Orioles to the 1983 World Series title and 1979 AL pennant. His best season came in 1982, batting .320 with 24 home runs and 66 RBI, all career highs. "Brother Lo" hit 15 homers with 60 RBI in part-time role in 1983, combining with Roenicke in left field to form dynamic duo that batted .292 with 35 homers and 131 RBI that season. His 3-run walk-off homer in the 10th inning to win Game 1 of the 1979 ALCS was the first pinch-hit home run in ALCS history.
