Bill O'Donnell, Broadcaster
Inducted 2007
| | Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame | |
Bill O'Donnell broadcast Orioles games on radio and television for 17 years, and his call of Doug DeCinces' game-winning home run on June 22, 1979, brought "Orioles Magic" to thousands of listeners. His tenure as voice of the Orioles, from 1966 until his untimely passing in 1982 is second only to his long-time broadcast partner, Chuck Thompson, who called O'Donnell "the most prepared sportscaster in the business." At the time of O'Donnell's death, they were the longest- running announcing team in the majors. He worked each of the Orioles' first five World Series and also did NBC's "Game of the Week" for eight years.
