Primarily a reliever in his 21-year Major League career, Hoyt Wilhelm threw the first no-hitter in Orioles history, beating the Yankees 1-0 on Sept. 20, 1958. The knuckleballing righthander tied for the team lead with 15 wins in 1959 before moving back to the bullpen, where he saved 40 games over the next three seasons. When he retired at age 48 in 1972, he was the only pitcher to have appeared in more than 1,000 games in his career. Elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1985, Wilhelm finished with a career record of 143-122 and 227 saves in 21 seasons.
