1. The Viaduct Marker
Inscription. The Viaduct is located on South Main Street, at the edge of downtown Mount Vernon. It was built over the Kokosing River in 1892 and was rehabilitated in 1969.

The stone arch viaduct replaced a wooden bridge that had years of damage from the elements. A thirty-year-old Viaduct passed its ultimate test as it withstood the ravages of the great flood of 1913.

Strategically located at the south edge of downtown Mount Vernon, the Viaduct has historically carried the merging northbound traffic from as many as four major state highways and currently provides safe passage over the Kokosing River for more than twenty thousand vehicles per day.
