Spaans Leenhof

Spanish Feudal Court
| | Rijksmonument | |
This building is named after the historic border conflicts at the end of the Eighty Years' War between Spain and The United Provinces of the Netherlands. This resulted in the 1661 Partition Act. The name 'Spanish Feudal Court' was assigned to the building in the 1940's. Johan Limpens, bailiff of Strucht, probably had the building constructed in 1661 as a refugee house: a shelter in times of unrest and war. In 1725 it became the property of the De Vignon family. Subsequently the locally important family Quaedvlieg owned and inhabited this house for almost the entire 19th century. The building has been the seat of Visit Zuid-Limburg since 1964. A miniature of this building can be seen at Madurodam.
