Inscription. Constructed in 1959 to house medical offices, this post World War II architecture became known as “mid-20th century modern.” The style featured a low wide footprint with clean lines, minimal ornamentation, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an emphasis on bringing the outdoors inside. Space for retail or other uses was provided in front at partially below grade. Outdoor features were a sunken court and patio.

The Westerville Medical Center was the dream of physicians Raymond Jennings, Harry Newland, and Walter Stout, and of dentist Thomas Pringle. A strike of Columbus construction workers led to a several months delay of the opening of their new offices. But on the last week of December 1959, the move from the old space at 74 North State Street to the new space at 100 South State Street was finally made. Keck's Beauty Salon was the first retail tenant.
