„Mann mit Bart“
⎯⎯⎯
“Man with Beard”
“Man with Beard”
The stonemasonry from the 16th century comes from the courtyard entrance of the Zum neuen Rappen brewery, which was located in Große Dechaneigasse. The building, like the entire city center, was destroyed shortly before the end of the Second World War by an Allied air raid on March 19, 1945. The figure was recovered from the rubble and integrated into the reconstruction of the building.
Erected 2024 by Stadt Hanau.

Excerpt (in translation): The house owner Anna Maria Scheich recently traveled to Hanau with her daughter Karoline Sohn and her husband Martin to present a corresponding historical marker to the public together with Mayor Claus Kaminsky. Anna Maria Scheich now lives in Gedern, but insisted on being there in person to speak to the mayor about her time in Hanau.(Submitted on June 2, 2024.)
Her husband Karl-Dieter Scheich, who died in 2014, had helped clear the rubble from the building as a young boy. The couple met in the Kaufhof department store. Karl-Dieter Scheich's ancestors ran the "Zum Neuen Rappen" restaurant before the Second World War. His great-grandparents Friedrich and Karoline Scheich and his grandmother Elisabeth Scheich were killed in the bombing of Hanau on March 19, 1945 and were buried in the main cemetery.
