Inscription.  
An dieser Stelle stand das Wohnhaus und Atelier des Malers Georg Cornicelius (Hanau 28.8.1825 - ebd. 9.12.1898). Cornicelius besuchte die Hanauer Zeichenakademie unter Theodor Pelissier. Mit seinem Malerfreund Friedrich Karl Hausmann unternahm er mehrere Studienreisen nach Holland, Frankreich und Italien. 1859 heiratete er die Kesselstädter Gastwirtstochter Sophie Eberhard und zog in die Langstraße 45 (das Haus am linken Bildrand). In der Mühlstraße unterhielt er eine private Malschule. Die Gebäude wurden im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört. Cornicelius' Werk umfasst Landschafts-, Historien- und Genre- malereien. Er gilt als der bedeutendste Hanauer Porträtmaler des 19. Jahrhunderts. 1872 Ehrenmitglied der Zeichenakademie, 1888 Königlich-Preußischer Professor.

of an innkeeper from Kesselstadt, and moved to Langstrasse 45 (the house on the left edge of the picture). He ran a private painting school on Mühlstrasse. The buildings were destroyed in the Second World War. Cornicelius' work includes landscape, historical and genre paintings. He is considered the most important Hanau portrait painter of the 19th century. Honorary member of the Drawing Academy in 1872, Royal Prussian Professor in 1888.
