1. St. Lorenz Main Street Central School Marker
Inscription. This Evangelical Lutheran school was located at the southeast corner of Main and School Streets.

The original (left) portion of the structure was dedicated on April 15, 1928. It contained five classrooms. two committee rooms and a library on the main floor. The second floor consisted of an auditorium and a kitchen. In the basement there were four-tournament-quality bowling alleys by the fall of 1946. The process of consolidating the previous nine one-room schools was completed and all St. Lorenz students attended the Main Street facility.

The addition (right) was dedicated on September 10, 1950. It contained five classrooms, a large kitchen and a gymnasium equipped with shower and lavatory amenities. The combined school would serve St. Lorenz students until the final transition to the Churchgrove Road location in 1969.

Subsequently, the building was used by the Frankenmuth Public Schools until 1980, and thereafter as a retail shopping mall. It was demolished in 2009. Except for this plaque, all of the materials contained in this monument were salvaged from the original building.

The St. Lorenz main street central school was an integral link in the chain of commitment to Christian education, which began with the 1846 log school and continues to the present.
