1. Captain J.J. Farr House Marker
Inscription. Captain J.J. Farr, lawyer and Confederate veteran, was the first man and his family, who lived in this 1870's vintage home, one of the earliest permanent dwellings in Glen Rose. The builder is unknown. Unique to the area, this house has a full basement, which took considerable know-how to make it sound and water tight. This house is a representation of the readily available limestone for structures in this area of Texas.

In the 1880's, Capt. Farr added a two-story addition to the stone structure, enlarging the home to twice its size. When Somervell County bought this property in the 1990's, the addition was torn away, due to its condition.

Capt. Farr served in Co. I, 12th Mississippi Infantry with the C.S.A. during the Civil War. He practiced law in Granbury before coming to Glen Rose. His son J. H. Farr went on to become a Somervell County Judge from 1912 to 1914.
