Guilford Center in South Central Region, Connecticut — The American Northeast (New England)
Reuben Stone House
1790
Built by Reuben Stone, a descendant of John Stone, an original settler of Guilford. The Stone family bought the land in 1715 from the family of William Leete and built two houses on the plot; No.6 Broad St. (1769) and No. 22 Broad St. (1790). The plot made up the northwest corner of Broad St., stretching north along River St. including the regicide cellar and the cider mill (1810).
Following an extensive renovation in 1835 which involved raising the roof to allow for a full second story and attic, it became the main family house.
The Stone family has continually retained ownership of No.22 and the cider mill and accompanying pasture.
