1. Historic German Village Marker

Inscription. In 1877, John Knopf first platted this lot. That same year, Carl Becker purchased this lot. Carl Becker was the principal of Third Street School, which was built in 1864. In 1879, Carl Becker, his spouse Margaret, and their three children are the first recorded residents of this vernacular Italianate home. Augusta Becker, a teacher, inherited this home in 1917. Extended family members rented the home from her until 1940.
